What Is an Urdu Word Counter?
An Urdu word counter counts the words and characters in Urdu text. Many online counters were built only for English and treat Urdu punctuation as ordinary characters, which throws their sentence counts off. This tool is built for Urdu from the start: it understands that Urdu sentences end with the Urdu full stop (۔) as well as the usual . ! and ? marks, and it counts words the way Urdu is actually written.
Urdu letters join up inside a word, so you cannot count words by looking for gaps between letters. Instead, words are separated by spaces, exactly like English, and that is what this counter measures: it splits your text on spaces and new lines, ignores empty gaps, and counts what remains. Whether you write in Urdu script, in English, or in Roman Urdu with Latin letters, the counting stays accurate, even when all three are mixed in one document.
How to Use the Urdu Word Counter
- Type your text straight into the box, or paste it from any document, message or web page.
- Watch the counts update live as you type — there is no button to press.
- Check the word count against your limit, and use the character counts where a form asks for characters instead of words.
- For a speech or presentation, look at the reading time to see how long the text takes to read aloud.
- Edit in the box and watch the numbers change until your text is the length you need.
How the Counting Works
Words: the text is trimmed, then split wherever there is a space, tab or new line, so double spaces never create false words. Characters (with spaces): every character you typed, spaces included. Characters (without spaces): the same text with all spaces and line breaks removed, useful for forms with strict character limits. Sentences: the text is split at each full stop, exclamation mark, question mark and Urdu full stop, and only parts that contain real text are counted. Paragraphs: blocks of text separated by blank lines or new lines. Reading time: the counter assumes an average reading speed of about 200 words per minute, so reading time in seconds = words divided by 200, multiplied by 60, rounded to the nearest second; under a minute it is shown in seconds, and above a minute as minutes and seconds.
Worked Example
Take the sentence “Pakistan is my country”. It has 4 words, 22 characters with spaces, 19 characters without spaces, 1 sentence and 1 paragraph, and a reading time of about 1 second. An empty box shows zero for every count, so you always start from a clean slate and never see an error.

Frequently Asked Questions
How are Urdu words counted?
Urdu words are separated by spaces, so the counter splits your text on spaces and new lines and counts the groups that remain. The joined letters inside a word do not affect the count.
Does it treat the Urdu full stop as the end of a sentence?
Yes. Sentences are split on . ! ? and the Urdu full stop, so Urdu text gets a correct sentence count instead of being treated as one long sentence.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. The counting happens entirely in your browser on your own device. Your text is never uploaded, stored or shared.
Can I count English or Roman Urdu text?
Yes. The tool counts any text, and Urdu script, English and Roman Urdu can be mixed in the same passage.
How is the reading time worked out?
It assumes an average reading speed of about 200 words per minute. Reading time in seconds is your word count divided by 200 and multiplied by 60, rounded to the nearest second.
Does the counter work on a phone?
Yes. The tool runs in any modern browser on mobile, tablet or desktop, with nothing to install.
